"When I listened to this superbly-performed and produced Ukrainian disk for the first time, something nagged at me: Where had I heard these themes before? Then it dawned on me that Archbishop Ionafan merged Orthodox choral form with themes directly from Latin Gregorian chant (I recognized themes from the Requiem Mass and Missa De Angelis/Mass VIII, among others; Track 23 on this disk is an adaptation of Gregorian Credo III; and so on). If you're familiar with Gregorian Masses, you'll have a semi-dejavu experience like I did. This is beautiful music from two traditions at once. Never heard anything like it. But it works!"
