CD Invocation: Songs for a Sacred Earth |
CD Beltane: Songs for the Green Time |
CD Firedance: Songs for Winter Solstice |
An album of sacred songs and chants dedicated to the Earth Spirit; for healing, celebration, abundance and peace. Haunting, multi-layered female vocal harmonies supported by harp, piano, penny whistle and percussion. The land and its seasons, the cycles of life, the enduring bonds of community - these are the themes of Jaiya’s music. Jaiya is a Sanskrit word meaning both “life,” and “triumph.” Jaiya’s songs remind us that we are creatures of earth. Our hearts beat to the rhythms of nature. Our bodies ebb and flow with the same tides that mark the hours and seasons. What we all share as dwellers on this sweet, fragile planet far outweighs our differences. The members of Jaiya live on a small island off the coast of British Columbia where deer, otter, seals, orcas, bald eagles, and many other species of wildlife still thrive. Miranda Brown, Kim Darwin and Lael Whitehead are multi-instrumentalists who collaborate on writing and arranging their original music. They weave stirring female vocal harmonies with harp, piano, accordion, guitar, flutes, and percussion. Their poetry invites listeners to come back home: to be here, now, on this living, breathing earth we all share. |
Invocation: Songs for a Sacred Earth Music for healing, celebration, abundance and peace Mayne Island, BC Trio, Jaiya, has just released their third album, Invocation: Songs for a Sacred Earth. Jaiya’s most meditative album yet, Invocation consists of ten original tunes dedicated to the Earth Spirit. The lyrics include several original chants, as well as the traditional Navaho Earth Spirit Prayer, the ancient Sanskrit mantra, Om Nama Shivaya, and Dona Nobis Pacem, a Christian prayer for peace. Invocation features multi-layered female vocal harmonies supported by an instrumental foundation of Celtic harp, Rhodes piano, accordion, penny whistle, electric bass and percussion. Each song is a hymn to life, expressing what the Dalai Lama calls “the yearning for harmony, with oneself and with others, with nature and with the spiritual and sacred within us and around us.” CDs and downloads available at CD Baby |
Beltane: Songs for the Green Time Music for healing, celebration, abundance and peace Beltane means "bright fire" in Gaelic. In ancient times fires were lit on the eve of May to celebrate the beginning of the growing season. Villagers "jumped the fire" to bring good luck. They danced and feasted in the newly-planted fields, rejoicing in the return of the Green Time. At Beltane, the earth calls all life to awaken and bloom. Jaiya has created a collection of original songs that celebrate renewal. Their music reminds us to connect with life's deep and enduring cycles. “There is something strangely stirring about this music, something hopeful and affirming. It's music from the hills, from far away, and from home, all at the same time. However Jaiya does it - whether it's the jazzy accordion, the pennywhistle, the harp or those beautiful voices - what results is a deep and unshakeable certainly that the clouds will part, the auld moon will rise again, everything is going to be alright, after all.” Terry Glavin, Transmontanus Press, BC CDs and downloads available at CD Baby |
Firedance: Songs for Winter Solstice Firedance: Songs for Winter Solstice offers a respite from the hectic commercialism of modern-day Christmas. These songs invite us to celebrate Yule in the old-fashioned way: by ritually observing the turning of the year, by acknowledging our part in the patterns of nature, and by feasting, dancing, and making merry! Celebrate "Yule" with songs full of Celtic soul, poignancy & fire. Jaiya weaves a rich blend of Celtic, Medieval, Jazz & Worldbeat sounds. Soaring vocals, lyric harp & haunting penny-whistle fuse magically with the earthy tones of accordion. CDs and downloads available at CD Baby |
